    Please shear/cut your cilantro. Ripping off a bunch, while convenient, damages the cellular structure enough to retard new growth.

    a cool trick for making the best potting mix is to use any potting mix of your choice with some compost or cow maure and take like 20 eggshells and crush them in to a fine powder with a rock or coffee grinder and mix it in to your soil . TIP: 2 half eggshells or 1 complete egg for a 0.25 gallon pot mix it in nicely and you have got the best soil ever

    Thank you so much for this video! I got a bulk amount of chocolate cherry sunflower seeds & they germinated *super* fast. They have such giant radicles that I suspected there is probably a "right" & "wrong" direction to plant the radicle. My wife…. In her infinite wisdom decided that since we couldn’t eat all of these lemon cucumbers she would toss the less than perfect ones into the compost pile. I didn’t realize ours we’re heritage….. of course this spring I’m mixing compost and soils….. anyone want 100+ cucumber plants?😂 I have them in everything. So just keep 2-3 lemon cucumbers over the winter….. just dry them out and in the spring start watering and you’ll have a whole new batch of cucumbers. You should never need to buy seeds or plants again because it looks like most of the seeds are germinating on my end. Just let them dry completely out…. Put them on top of your water heater for a couple months?

    I was pulling them out. Thank you I now understand why that’s not a good idea. I’m going out with my scissors to finish. I’ve been doing it slowly too because I’ve been eating them on my salad. I just retired and this is my first garden. I’m so excited. I’ll have to see if you have tips on growing carrots. Mine are not doing that great. Oh, and by the way, I’m going to grow my radishes in my tubs because they’re such a shallow vegetable great idea. Thank you for that as well.

      So nice to hear your excitement at being a new gardener! I haven't done a lot of videos on carrots but there are a few in my Winter Sowing playlists. Some on growing them in WS jugs, some in grow tubs. The key to carrots is just getting them to sprout. They cannot dry out in that first few weeks before sprouting. Once you get over that hill, they just grow pretty well on their own if your soil is loose. Radishes grow great in shallow tubs. I grow a LOT of veg in my 8 inch deep grow tubs. New to container growing. 7b my cilantro is about 2-3 inches and starting to yellow. Could I be over watering

    • @JuicingGardener
      @JuicingGardener Місяць тому

      Yes yellowing is usually too much water OR not enough nutrients in the soil mix. Did you use a good premium potting mix like Fox Farm's Happy Frog? If you use cheaper big box store mixes they often are nutrient deficient and seedlings don't do as well. I've tried them all! Good luck. Have you joined our Winter Sowing Facebook Community yet? They were a gift from a friend years ago. They had just bought a farm that had been a maggot farm and she gave me like 18 of them. Then I searched high and low for them since I love them so much and found them in Amazon. The company name is MacCourt I believe. If you can't find them there, you can try using cement mixing tubs from the big box stores. The size is 2 foot by 4 foot by 8 inches. They are not as good, will get brittle in the sun, but they will work for 1-2 year. The Maccourt ones have lasted me literally 9 or 10 year! So good on my back not to have to bend over to the ground. Oh yes ma’am. Cook some bacon, cut into about one inch pieces in a large pot. Not too crispy. Chop some onion, yellow or white, I like a lot of onion. After the onion becomes translucent, kind of almost clear, add your washed beans and stir them in the mixture about a minute or two. Cover beans with water and reduce heat to med/low and season with salt and pepper. Cook them about an hour and a half. Be aware that the closer they get to being done you’ll need to add more water as needed. The juices will thicken somewhat. Serve over rice with homemade cornbread. That’s a meal for me. I love beans. Once you try them from your garden you’ll NEVER want canned beans. lol. You can also add a pod of garlic when you’re almost done sautéing the onion. Cook the garlic about 30 seconds then add your water and beans. I hope you can understand my explanation. Best of luck to you. (You can add bell pepper as well, play around with it. They’re delicious HOWEVER you cook them)

    Do you add fertilizer or compost at the bottom? If not, how do you add later since this is their permanent home?

    • @JuicingGardener
      @JuicingGardener Місяць тому

      Great Q's! I usually don't add fertilizer since I use such a good rich potting mix that has compost in it. I use Fox Farms Happy Frog and Ocean Forest. Any good compost based premium mix is good. You won't find them in big box stores. So each year the 5 gallon bucket soil lowers and compacts. I top it off with fresh every year for about 3 years and mix it in. At the 4th year or so, I dump it on a tarp and add a lot more fresh, mix and refill the 5 G bucket. Sometimes I toss all the soil in a raised bed and add ALL NEW FRESH mix to the bucket. Depends on how many I have to do and the costs.

      You're absolutely correct. My goal was to show you the OUTCOME of the Winter Sowing method. This was a Big Reveal video, not a procedural beginner video. I have shown more of the procedure in my other videos. I was a 'baby' youtuber back then and didn't always hit a home run. If you dig through my Winter Sowing playlists, you will find a LOT more on the Winter Sowing method for tomatoes and all other veg. Sorry for the disappointment and incorrect headline.

    I wish I had seen this video several days ago before I uncovered my plants...mine had their "big kid" leaves and so I uncovered and a frost came and wiped out all my tomatoes and cantaloupe and dwarf sunflowers...This is my first time growing anything and Im doing everything off of research I've found online. The fb group said Trudi leaves it up to you wether you cover or uncover when they have their big leaves. This was a really humbling experience since I thought I was doing so well😅 I also want to say thank you for saying "it was kind of a disappointment but that's gardening"❤ that is so encouraging! So many good lessons to be learned!

    I thought Basil needed high temperatures .

    • @JuicingGardener
      @JuicingGardener Місяць тому

      It does need high temps. With this method of No Transplant Winter Sowing, just like in Winter Sowing in jugs, you add the seeds in winter in the cold and they just sit there a couple months getting ready to sprout when the temps hit the warm enough temps. This process makes must hardier and more hardened seedlings than any other method. You can do this for all your seeds both hot and cold lovers. They all go in the jugs or in ground under domes at the same time late Feb, Mar and into April. then the magic occurs in spring! Have you joined our Facebook Winter Sowing group yet? Link above. Hope to see you there if you are not already in! facebook.com/groups/WinterSowing.VegGardeningwithSheryl

      @JuicingGardener bo I didn't try it. I just started all my seeds indoors. I have a few things to understand and maybe next year I will give it a try.

    The hairs don’t turn into roots, they are called trichomes and protect the plant, but burying it deeper does create a more stable start.

    This intrigues me. I’m going to start with onions.

      Onions do really well with Winter Sowing method in jugs. Did you try a few jugs this year? You can sow a lot of onion seeds in a gallon jug. They will look delicate like horse hairs but they transplant easily and will take off after transplant. Have you joined our Facebook Winter Sowing group yet? Link above. NO! you'll need to water them every couple days or even daily in hot climates. (Top or bottom water) You can also out them in partial shade in hot climates.

      @JuicingGardener Місяць тому

      Sorry for the late response. You can put peppers in Winter Sowing jugs from Feb to April and sometimes into May if you have a long enough growing season. I even made it to June one year in Ohio! Tomatoes sprout sooner, peppers are amongst the LAST to sprout every year so be patient. They really need that warmth to sprout. After transplant they will take off. How did your WS go this year? Have you joined our Facebook Winter Sowing group yet? Link below. @@JuicingGardener thank you for your response . i just tried everything. A lot of things came up , a lot did not. Could possibly be due to some seeds being old. None of the plants grew really large so far, i was very surprised . Still glad about a bit of a headstart but disappointed a bit. Was hoping for larger plants by now.

    You provided absolutely no instruction on how to do this.

    • @JuicingGardener
      @JuicingGardener Місяць тому

    I try many different ways to get my seeds to grow, with less work from me, and vetter plants over-all. I tried starting seeds inside and doing the in-out thing, it did not work great, mostly bc it is very windy here, and I do not have a south fac8ng window to work with. I use 5gal buckets to plant in, for the most part I find they are not really big enough to grow the best vegetable like tomatoes😢, peppers do okay, onions done well, 4 to a bucket. Nut I am kind of a lazy type gardener, I d9nt want to work my trip off, I am already disabled, no need to make it crippled. And I have minimal funds to spend, and minimal tools, and a hobo fence to work with. Chickens, cats dogs and a goat, not counting the wild animals. I have mean learning to save my own seeds, to save money. And in hope of having strong plants
